The Ground Zeroes story dates back to 1975, a few months after the Peace Walker. In this section, we will see the return of Big Boss (SNK) as the main hero. His first mission is to join an army without frontiers into an American camp that is a forbidden region from the territory of Cuba. This is the Omega Camp. One of Snake’s missions in this camp is the Cipher spy, Paz Ortega, whom we met during Peace Walker’s crash. Another of his missions was the rescue of Chico Libre, the boy arrested at Peace Walker, and despite his efforts to save himself, he did not do anything about it. When Snake is doing this mission, the base of the Army without frontier is attacked by a secret group called the XOF, led by a person called Skull Face. The events that occur during this mission will be the main reason for changing the behavior and personality of Snake in the next version of The Phantom Pain.
