World War Z is a third-person shooter video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive and Mad Dog Games LLC. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2019. Loosely based on the 2006 book of the same name, and set in the same universe as the 2013 film adaptation, the game follows groups of survivors of a zombieapocalypse in the cities of Moscow, New York, Jerusalem, and Tokyo.
The game was announced in December 2017 as a four player cooperative at The Game Awards.[1] The game is inspired on the 2013 film World War Z, with gameplay featuring over the shoulder third person shooter cooperative combat against large numbers of zombies, defensive traps and emplacements. The game is set in New York, Jerusalem, Moscow, and Japan
As the infection spreads, Israel abandons the Palestinian territories and initiates a nationwide cordon sanitaire, closing its borders to everyone except uninfected Jews and Palestinians, leading to a civil war. The United States does little to prepare because of its overconfidence in its ability to suppress any threat. Although special forces teams contain initial outbreaks, a widespread effort never starts: the US is deprived of political will by “brushfire wars“, and a widely distributed and marketed placebo vaccine, Phalanx, creates a false sense of security.
